Detoxification in spring is an important part of the ayurvedic seasonal routine called “ritucharya”. Autumn is considered to be a “Vata season” because they are marked by some of the same qualities that characterize Vata: cold, dry, light, clear, and moving. When too much Vata accumulates in the body and mind, the imbalance may manifest as physical or emotional disorders, including insomnia, dry skin, arthritis, constipation, high blood pressure, anxiety, and depression.

Detox program

Detoxification is carried out in three phases:

  1. Preparatory phase

  2. Detox phase

  3. Restoration phase

How can I participate in this challenge?

After you sign up, you will get all materials, training and instructions on how to detox yourself at your home.  You must follow a daily routine designed according to Ayurvedic principles. 

 

What is detoxification?
Detoxification is the most powerful tool to remove blockages and toxins from the body which are suppressing our metabolism and immune system of the body.

 

How do I prepare for detox?
Our Ayurvedic doctor will give you Triphala for three days before starting the detox challenge.  Triphala (three fruits) is a traditional Ayurvedic herbal formulation consisting of three fruits native to the Indian subcontinent: Amalaki (Emblicaofficinalis), Bibhitaki (Terminalia belerica) and Haritaki (Terminalia chebula).

 

What is the challenge in Ayurvedic Detox?

The only challenge will be the disciplining themselves in term of following the routine as everything is designed according to Ayurvedic principles and none of them can be skipped.

 

I normally take bath in the evening.  Do I have to take bath in the morning?

It is advisable to take bath in the morning as it gives a fresh start. Thus those who are habitual of taking baths in the evening they can do twice one in the morning and evening.

 

What included in the detox kit?

The Detox kit contains-Organic khichari mix(grains), Detox morning and evening tea, Herbs infused Ghee, Oat meal(with essential nuts), Daily Schedule from getting up till you sleep, Recipes for smoothies & soups.

 

Can I continue with my regular medicines and multivitamins?

Yes. one must continue their regular medication and multivitamins.


Any adverse effects? Particularly, for me, I am 75; could there be any adverse effects because of my age?

No. It is completely safe however people with certain medical conditions will be dealt separately.

 

What does this restricted diet do and what type of toxins are removed?

Ama is removed from the body. It is toxic, morbid, and metabolic waste.

 

Are the toxins removed by the restricted diet itself or by any added Ayurvedic medicine?

Diet helps and additionally, you will be given Triphala (essence from three tropical fruits) ayurvedic tablet to flush away all the toxins.

 

If any medicines are added, what type of medicines?  I am asking these questions, as I would like to know whether there could be any interactions with the medications I take; like, I am on some cholesterol medicines and I also take some antioxidant supplements, like, green tea extract, grape seed extract, multivitamins and Glucosamine sulfate for osteoarthritis in my knees.

Triphala is the only ayurvedic tablet, which is a herbal supplement and acts as a mild laxative.

 

At the end of the program, do we go back to our regular diet right away or there is weaning period?

Three days reconstitution period will be advised after 7 days plan which will maintain a buffer in the body and prepare to resume the normal lifestyle.

 

I go swimming several times a week and I am getting some physical therapy for my knees. Do I stop them for that week? It is not a problem for me not to them that week.

No. you can continue with both of them

 

Do we pick up meal kits from the HYC every day during the detox phase?

No, We will provide the whole kit for 7 days before the preparatory session starts. For early registrants we give the kit on the day of education session. 

 

Will we have our own food during preparatory and restorative phase?

Yes but with some restrictions  under the advice of Doctor.

 

So except one educational lecture, we will be following diet on our own at home, right?

Yes under continuous consultation with Doctor. Also we create one detox group on WhatsApp (free social mobile app) where you can discuss about your daily experiences or you may seek nutritional or medical advice during detox program. On the last day of the detox, we again get to gather and do concluding session. During 12 days of detox, you may attend yoga class for free. We will be practicing detoxifying pranayama, shankha-prakshalana kriya and few easy but helpful asanas everyday.
